Welcome to the Cascadia Renaissance Faire & Highland Games! Our policies are designed to help create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for guests, campers, performers, vendors, volunteers, and staff.

By attending or participating in the Faire, you agree to follow these policies and any reasonable instructions provided by Faire staff, public safety personnel, property management, or appropriate authorities.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire expects event attendees and participants to communicate professionally and constructively, whether in person or virtually.

Dissent or disagreement should be approached with courtesy, dignity, and an open mind. Individuals should provide respectful feedback and remain open to alternate points of view.

We also expect information shared publicly about the organization, event, or event attendees to be communicated responsibly, with personal opinions clearly distinguished from facts.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire does not tolerate harassment of event attendees, members, or participants in any form, whether in person, online, or in other virtual spaces associated with Faire events and activities.

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

• Unwanted advances
• Physical or verbal assault
• Stalking
• Sexual harassment
• Unwanted physical contact
• Inappropriate photography or filming
• Derogatory comments
• Hate speech
• Use or display of hate symbols

If an individual or group is observed or reported harassing another attendee, Cascadia Renaissance Faire may take appropriate action, including:

• Issuing a warning to cease the behavior
• Expulsion from the event without a refund
• Banning the individual from future Cascadia Renaissance Faire events and activities

If you feel you are being harassed, please report your concerns to event public safety staff as soon as possible. If you cannot locate staff or a volunteer who can assist you, visit the Information Booth near the event entrance.

For everyone's safety, please report the situation rather than confronting the individual yourself.

The safety of our guests, campers, performers, vendors, staff, and surrounding community is a priority of the Cascadia Renaissance Faire & Highland Games.

All attendees and participants must comply with fire-safety requirements and instructions issued by Faire staff, property management, and local fire authorities.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire Burn Ban Remains in Effect

Although Lewis County has lifted its countywide burn ban, a burn ban remains in effect for the Cascadia Renaissance Faire & Highland Games and all associated camping areas at Cowlitz River Rentals.

Absolutely no wood fires of any kind are permitted. This includes campfires, wood-burning fire pits, wood-burning stoves, burn barrels, and other fires using wood or similar combustible materials.

Propane and Charcoal

The following are permitted at this time:

Propane stoves, grills, and other approved propane appliances, when used safely and according to manufacturer instructions.

Charcoal grills, when charcoal is contained within an appropriate, purpose-built grill or container and fully extinguished after use.

Propane appliances and charcoal fires must be kept away from combustible materials and must never be left unattended while in use. Appropriate fire-extinguishing materials, such as water or a fire extinguisher, should be readily available.

Smoking and Vaping

Smoking and vaping are permitted only in designated areas. Cigarettes, cigars, matches, and other smoking materials must be completely extinguished and disposed of properly. Do not discard cigarette butts, matches, or other smoking materials on the ground.

Changing Fire Conditions

Fire conditions can change quickly. The lifting of the Lewis County burn ban does not override or cancel the Cascadia Renaissance Faire burn ban.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire & Highland Games reserves the right to impose additional fire restrictions or prohibit any flame, appliance, activity, or item determined to present a fire hazard. All attendees and participants must comply with additional instructions issued by Faire staff, Cowlitz River Rentals, or local fire authorities.

Campers should also review the Camping FAQ for additional campground-specific fire and safety requirements.

Pets are welcome at the Cascadia Renaissance Faire & Highland Games and in the campground. Please remember that this is a busy public event held on rural property and make responsible decisions about whether the Faire environment is appropriate for your animal.

Pet owners are responsible for their animals at all times, including their behavior, safety, care, and any injury or property damage they may cause.

Pets must be leashed or securely contained at all times while on the Faire grounds or in the campground.

The property includes open, unfenced rural areas, multiple neighboring campsites, vehicle traffic, and nearby Hwy 12. Even animals that normally remain close to their owners should not be allowed to roam freely.

Leashes and restraints must be appropriate for the size and type of animal and remain under the control of a responsible person.

Pets may not be tied or positioned where they block walkways, entrances, roads, vendor spaces, or other areas used by Faire guests.

The Faire can be an exciting—and sometimes overwhelming—environment for animals.

Depending on Faire activities, pets may encounter:

• Large crowds
• Children
• Other pets
• Horses or other large animals
• Costumed performers
• Unusual sights and smells
• Music, cheering, and other loud noises
• Sudden loud sounds, which may include cannon or weapons demonstrations

Please consider your pet's temperament and comfort level before bringing them to the Faire.

If your animal is frightened by crowds, children, other animals, or sudden noises, the Faire may not be an appropriate environment for them.

Please do not allow your pet to approach other guests, children, pets, performers, or animals without permission.

Animals displaying aggressive, threatening, or persistently disruptive behavior may be required to leave the Faire area.

Examples include:

• Biting or attempting to bite
• Lunging or charging at people or animals
• Persistent aggressive barking or growling
• Escaping or repeatedly attempting to escape the owner's control
• Chasing people, pets, livestock, or wildlife
• Other behavior that Faire staff reasonably determines presents a safety concern

Depending on the circumstances, campers may be asked to securely sequester the animal at their campsite or remove it from the property. Day guests may be required to remove the animal from the event grounds.

If a guest is required to leave because of their animal's behavior, admission and camping fees will not be refunded.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire & Highland Games reserves the right to require the removal of any animal when Faire staff reasonably believes the animal presents a risk to guests, participants, other animals, or itself.

Owners must immediately pick up and properly dispose of their pet's waste throughout both the Faire grounds and campground.

Pet waste bags should be placed in regular trash receptacles or in your campsite trash and then taken to the designated dumpster.

Do not place pet waste bags in portable restrooms or portable-restroom trash containers.

There will be no designated pet watering stations, so owners are responsible for bringing adequate water, food, bowls, medications, waste bags, and any other supplies their animals may need.

Please plan for changing weather conditions and your pet's needs throughout the day.

Pets brought onto the property should be healthy and appropriately vaccinated as recommended for their species and circumstances.

Please do not bring an animal showing signs of a contagious illness or that could pose a health risk to other animals or people.

The Faire is held on rural property where pets may encounter wildlife, insects, uneven terrain, vegetation, and other natural hazards. Eagles, hawks, coyotes, and other predators are present in the region, so owners of small animals should take particular care.

Do not leave pets unattended on the Faire grounds.

Campers who leave pets at their campsite are responsible for ensuring their animals are safely and securely contained, have appropriate shelter and water, and cannot escape or interfere with neighboring campsites.

Never leave an animal unattended in a vehicle when temperatures or other conditions could endanger the animal.

Service animals trained to perform work or tasks for a person with a disability are welcome in accordance with applicable law.

Service animals must remain under their handler's control. Where permitted by law, a service animal that is out of control and whose handler does not take effective action to control it, or an animal that is not housebroken, may be required to leave the event area.

The presence of other animals, livestock, demonstrations, or loud activities does not change the rights of guests using trained service animals.

Emotional-support, comfort, and therapy animals are not considered service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act unless the animal has been individually trained to perform work or tasks directly related to a person's disability. Because Cascadia Renaissance Faire & Highland Games allows pets, emotional-support and comfort animals are welcome under the same rules that apply to other pets.

Guests with emotional-support, comfort, or therapy animals are responsible for following all requirements of this Pet Policy, including leash or containment requirements, waste cleanup, and rules concerning aggressive or disruptive behavior.

Faire staff and volunteers will respect the rights and privacy of guests with disabilities. When it is not obvious that an animal is a service animal, staff may ask only the questions permitted by applicable law.

By bringing an animal onto the property, you accept responsibility for supervising and controlling that animal throughout your visit.

Please be considerate of fellow Faire-goers. Not everyone is comfortable around animals, and another guest should not have to interact with your pet simply because they are sharing the same event space.

Know your pet, keep them under control, clean up after them, and help make the Faire safe and enjoyable for humans and animals alike.

In accordance with Washington state law, private marijuana use is protected, but consumption in public view is prohibited.

Non-cannabis and non-prescription illicit drugs are forbidden and are not allowed at Cascadia Renaissance Faire.

Alcohol is served and permitted only in designated Taverns during festival hours and for limited times during official evening activities on Friday and Saturday.

Alcohol consumption is restricted to inside the fenced Taverns.

Attendees must be 21 years or older and carry a valid government-issued photo ID while in the Taverns.

No outside alcohol may be brought in or consumed within the Taverns or on site.

We uphold a ZERO tolerance policy for underage drinking. Any minor caught drinking will be escorted to their guardian and asked to leave the site. Adults serving alcohol to minors will be reported to the authorities and asked to leave.

Alcohol consumption is closely monitored. Individuals exhibiting signs of over-intoxication will be cut off and may be removed from the Taverns.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire reserves the right to remove or ban any individual deemed a danger to themselves or others.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire recognizes that historical reenactment and cosplay are integral to the festival experience, and we strive to ensure safety and enjoyment for everyone.

Individuals violating the Weapons Policy may be asked to leave without a refund or permanently banned from the event.

NOTE: Foam weapons intended for boffing may only be used in designated zones during open boffing times.

Period arms include weapons relevant to the time period portrayed while in costume, such as swords, daggers, whips, and pikes.

All arms must be secured or peace tied to the guest and may not be removed from the holster.

Any exposed blade must be safe for stage combat and pose no risk of injury to guests or others.

Arrows carried as costume adornment must be peace tied together, with tips removed.

Plastic, foam, and wooden toy weapons are allowed without sheaths or peace bonding but must not be wielded in a manner that could accidentally strike someone.

Public safety personnel are available at the front gate for assistance with securing weapons. Unsafe weapons must be removed from the festival or secured in a vehicle.

Replica and black powder guns used as costume adornments must be inoperable, unless they belong to official designated performers operating under approved performance safety protocols.

All black powder guns must be peace tied and may not be detached from their holster or belt while at the Cascadia Renaissance Faire.

The following requirements apply:

• No capability of propelling projectiles
• No percussion caps or flint stones
• The powder pan or barrel must be plugged
• No possession of projectiles or black powder

Concealed weapons and firearms are strictly prohibited on the property.

Other cosplay prop weapons are permitted as long as they do not fall under the prohibited-items list and otherwise comply with this Weapons Policy.

Foam weapons intended for boffing may only be used in designated zones during open boffing times.

The following are prohibited:

• Explosives
• Functional firearms
• Projectile weapons of any kind
• Real guns
• Paintball guns
• Airsoft guns
• BB guns
• Cap guns
• Any device that launches a real projectile or creates an explosion
• Hyper-realistic firearms that could reasonably be mistaken for real firearms

All designated event firearm and weapon demonstrators, entertainers, and performers must comply with event weapons policies when not actively performing.

Weapons, ammunition, and black powder must be secured in safe, locked areas inaccessible to the public.

Using weapons while intoxicated or under the influence of substances that impair safe operation is strictly prohibited.

Safety inspections by public safety event staff are mandatory.

Designated performers using firearms or weapons must maintain liability insurance of no less than $2,000,000.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire & Highland Games is committed to keeping the Faire grounds and surrounding property clean and enjoyable for everyone.

Please dispose of all waste responsibly and help us leave the grounds as clean—or cleaner—than we found them.

Trash receptacles and a dumpster are provided for small household-type trash generated during the event, including:

• Food waste and food packaging
• Bottles and cans
• Disposable cups, plates, and utensils
• Other small items that would normally be placed in household kitchen trash

Recycling services will not be available on site. Guests and campers who wish to recycle are responsible for collecting and transporting their recyclable materials off site.

Large, bulky, hazardous, or camping-related items may not be placed in Faire trash receptacles or the dumpster. These items must be packed out with you when you leave.

Examples include:

• Broken chairs or other camping furniture
• Damaged or abandoned tents
• Pop-up canopies
• Large camping equipment
• Fuel canisters
• Hazardous materials
• Other bulky items that would not normally be disposed of in household trash

Please take your trash to the nearest designated trash receptacle or to the on-site dumpster.

Campsite trash pickup will not be provided.

Do not leave bagged trash, broken equipment, or other discarded items at your campsite when departing.

Portable restrooms will be provided throughout the event grounds for guest and camper use.

Only human waste and toilet paper may be placed in the toilets.

Please dispose of all other items in a regular trash receptacle, including:

• Menstrual products
• Sanitary or personal wipes, including products labeled “flushable”
• Diapers
• Medical-use items
• Paper towels
• Food or beverage containers
• Other trash or personal-care products

These materials can clog the equipment used to service portable restrooms and may prevent a restroom from being serviced properly, potentially taking it out of use.

To help control odors and keep the facilities pleasant for everyone, please close the toilet lid after use.

If you discover a portable restroom that needs servicing, has run out of supplies, is damaged, or otherwise requires attention, please notify a Cascadia volunteer or staff member so the issue can be addressed.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire encourages creative expression free from judgment or harassment. We celebrate body positivity and believe cosplay and costuming should be inclusive for everyBODY.

As a Celtic Renaissance Fantasy Scottish Highland festival, we do not enforce strict historical accuracy or quality standards for costumes. Historical costumes are welcome, but representations of historical atrocities, such as Nazi paraphernalia, are never appropriate.

Reenactment of historical injustices related to the oppression of any group is explicitly prohibited.

Full nudity is not allowed. All individuals must cover their nipples and genitals regardless of gender identity or expression.

Costumes featuring hate symbols are prohibited.

Hyper-realistic uniforms must clearly indicate that they are costumes to avoid confusion with law enforcement or military personnel.

Prop weapons accompanying costumes must comply with our Weapons Policy.

A variety of fresh food will be available from vendors and concession stands throughout the festival, but we understand that guests may need to bring outside food and beverages.

• Water bottles of any size
• Food required for medical purposes or specific dietary needs
• Baby food or formula

• Food requiring heating or refrigeration
• Alcohol
• Glass containers, except baby food jars

Carry-in bags, baskets, and backpacks are permitted. Clear bags are not required.

Please be aware that all bags are subject to search by our security team upon entering the event.

Cascadia Renaissance Faire retains exclusive rights to record, stream, and host content related to our events, whether occurring in person or virtually.

By registering, attending, or participating in any activity at the Cascadia Renaissance Faire, you agree to allow us to use and distribute images, names, or voices captured in recordings, photographs, or videos for websites, social media, print materials, digital publications, and other Faire-related communications.
